Game 49 - Red Wings 2 Caps 3

I know Detroit has been struggling a bit this season while suffering through a bad stretch of injuries. And I've seen them on the losing side of some ugly scores. But the visitors put on an absolute clinic for the first half this game with a dazzling display of passing and puck control. We've rarely seen the Caps so tied up in their own end.  OV was blanketed. Only  a startling performance by Theodore kept them in the game. It was a borderline miracle to get out of the first period scoreless.

This is the kind of game you need in the playoffs - well, not the running around in circles for thirty minutes part.  The part where Matt Bradley and David Steckel deliver key even strength goals when presented with opportunities in a game that afforded few of them. Although playoff hockey is a bit more open than it used to be - there are going to be tough games where the respective stars of each team are shut down.

On to Pittsburgh for the other half of the back to back with Stanley Cup finalists.
